The Best Claypot Chicken Rice

I'm a big fan of claypot chicken rice. There is just something about digging into a hot bowl with chucks of marinated chicken and rice that puts a smile on my face and makes the process of taking out my money and giving it to the guy making the claypot chicken rice so much more easier.

But then again, the claypot chicken rice in Sri Petaling is not that great.

So a week back, my dad took us to this place in Chan Sow Lin.

Kedai Makanan Huan Kee Claypot Chicken Rice... Not a very original name...

This place is supposedly a very old place and quite well known in KL. It even came out in the papers, so you know that it has to be good (*construing this as sarcasm or a compliment is up to you =] *)

Anyways, so we order claypot chicken rice (*duh*) and some other stuff...

Enough for 4 people and what i believe to be almost a whole chicken in that pot, and a stalk of spring onion leaves.

Stri fried taugeh. Nothing that special... It was not overcooked, which was good...

Cucumber soup... The best I have ever tasted so far...

Homemade seafood taufu... It was so good that we initially ordered 10 pieces and then ordered another 5 more.

They also have other stuff like waxed duck rice and claypot chicken with chinese wine rice. For a large pot, its about RM18, which between 4 ppl, is about RM5 per head. A real good deal...

If only parking was not such a pain...

Happy Chinese New Year.

Another year and another animal, we enter another new year (*according to the lunar calender at least*), and with that, more stuff....

Anyways, CK is leaving soon, going back to Aussie and doing his last sem and what not... The sad part is that he will be leaving on Sunday, which means that we have to squeeze in our CNY dinner plans and the obligatory CC session that we do whenever dude goes back (*note that this has only happened like 2 times, coz well, dude just finished his 2nd year*)

I don't know why, this year seems more difficult to get people together to sit down and have dinner, and do what we usually do (*which means making fun of Mun Yong, then Rajes and then back to Mun Yong again*). The first year was the best coz we got together and we had a damn good dinner and then watched a movie.

We never could replicate that first year CNY thing. Maybe its because Eric is not there, him being in Aussie and now speaks with an Aussie accent and sounds like a cross-breed between a Australian and Garfield. Maybe its because we had more time coz CK left much later after the CNY dinner.

The 2nd year was a bit more sadder. We had dinner again and then we watched a movie, again... The sad part was the fact that we did the same damn thing again. And we had less people.

This year, it seems that everything is happening so fast. After next week, I'll be back to class. The others will also be back to their respective classes and social life. The sad part of this year is that I think we are drifting a part even more. People are gettin older, so I guess it is inevitable.

The good thing is that at least this time, Mun Yong can year that same red t-shirt to dinner and say that it is festive...

Anyways, for the lack of nothing better to write, I'mma just review whatever I have read/listened/saw in the pas few weeks...

Heroes and Thieves by Vanessa Carlton - New look, new record label and new album. Quite a good one, and does not have a very RnB sound despite being on The Inc. label. Look out for songs like Nolita Fairytale and Hands on Me.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - Could not stop laughing... Too funny...

Rising Sun by Michael Crichton - I think this is the best book that Crichton has ever written. I thought Sphere was good, this is better... A really good read and I think this book set the bar a bit to high for Crichton to meet...

His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman - Started off with potential in The Northen Lights (*or The Golden Compass in the US*), was excellant in The Subtle Knife, and just became a sappy ass love story by the end of The Amber Spyglass... Not to say that the series is bad... Its not as captivating as Harry Potter or even Eragon, but a much easier read than Lord of the Rings, while retaining a very vivid storytelling style.

The Post-Exam Post

So, the exams are over, the aftermath is still kinda fresh in our minds, as we start our new semester. The sad thing is that the break was only over the weekend. Sad coz the break that we were looking for was actually just, well, the freaking weekend.

Anyways, the first exams of the masters programme was eventful. The most stressful exams yet.

The various long discussions.

The questionings of concepts.

Times when we just could not get the answers.

The pondering of concepts.

And the short lived epiphanies.

When all failed, we all retreated to the one way that we could, at that point to relieve stress.

We all went out for lunch.

The makan trips...

However, that does not give us the wanted effect...

And it makes other's do weird things...

When 1 location fails, we switch to another one, in hope of understanding better...

However, there are times when we are able to get something done, and done right...

But then again, it is rarely the case...

Then comes the exam itself.

Some of us are serenely calm...

Some of us resort to meditation...

Some of us just act silly...

In the end, this just describes us, regardless of the preparation...

Don't we all just love exams?

The Mid Exam Post

Middle of the exams now, which probably explains the lack of updates since the last post.. The only reason this post is going up is coz I needed to stop thinking about Economics for a minute, as I was at it since this morning at 11...

So.. She finally turned 21...

So technically, she is a person of "sound mind and able body", according to Malaysian law (*This statement has been para-phrased... A LOT!!!*).

The last thing we need is a 21 year old Chinese female, with a black belt, driving around KL in a Kelisa with crappy suspension, blasting John Mayer and Jay Chou and yelling the lyrics out at the top of her lungs, on the way to the club, where she shall recharge with doses of alcohol, and music loud enough for dead people to hear, and then driving back home, running over some poor fool, and laugh manically, while he lies on the street...

But then again, it would not be so fun otherwise...

Pods and An Album Review

First off, the album review...

KH intro-ed me to this new band that he was helping promote. And when I meant promote, I mean sell the CD's., and asked me to help me promote it thru my blog.

It's interesting to see how KH hustle's his CD's.

Anyways, Auraljoint is this new up and coming band. They cut their own CD, entitled Extended Play.

Wasn't Extended Play a TV show at some point??

Anyways, this CD was made by them, out of their own pockets, so dont expect to find this on Torrentreactor or BTJunkie. It's only 5 songs long, but considering that they are college students and this came out of their own pockets, i guess its alright. For some reason, they sound like Blink 182 meets the Counting Crows.

Except for the glasses, they all look the same...

It's not a classic, by any means, but it is listenable. It won't blow your socks way, but its is a solid project. The only way they can go now is up. It's only RM10, so it wont really make that much of a dent on your wallet... Save RM2 a day, and by the end of the week, you'll be listening to this. Tracks that drew my interest was "Someonelse" and "Black Wing"

Anyways, CK got back from Aussie and he got me Pods. And even when he said, the packed them next to his undies, I was like "Enough with the yakkity-yak... Give me my Pods dammit!!!"

All bow and praise that greatness that is Pods...

Honestly, you can never take a bad shot of Pods...

Sure the packaging changed, but its still good... The Snickers one is still good, but I think the Mars one is a bit more chewy than before.

Ahh... the Holy Grail of biscuits.

Man, I gotta slow down on these things. I already polished off 1 bag... Laynie ate one, and the next day, she sent an e-mail to the manufacturer, asking them to bring em to Malaysia...

Now, for the lack of a better update, I'm just gonna review some of the albums that I have downloaded and are actually making me NOT wanna go and write a really scathing e-mail against Britney Spears

God knows we dont need another fan breakdown thing like that...

But anyways, on with the review...

1)Metaphorical Music by Nujabes

This in an album out by Japanese DJ/music store owner Nujabes. A really great hip-hop album for people that don't wanna listen to another song by 50 Cent or Mims (*this is why I'm hot x50times*) Unlike most albums, where they use samples of old songs, this uses a lot of jazz beats and horns, with a hint of drums in the back. With underground rappers such as PaseRock, Substantial, Cise Star and Shing02, this is one killer album... Now if only Jay Z or Lil Wayne did one with him...

2) The Grey Album by DJ Dangermouse, Jay Z and The Beatles

I was very apprehensive when downloading this album. I mean, it's Jay Z and The Beatles. It would be weird to here "Hey Jude" mixed with "Dirt of Your Shoulders". This album, which is a mix of Jay Z's "The Black Album" and The Beatles "The White Album", is suprisingly, very good. (*Save 2 songs, which sounded so weird*)

3) The Garden by Zero 7.

By far, the best album for me to chill to... Nice slow tempo beats and relaxing vocals...

4) Flyleaf by Flyleaf

Probably the best rock album of the year, except for Daughtry's album... Sure better than the Foo Fighters album, which got a quick delete after downloading... Look out for "All Around Me" and "I'm So Sick"

1) North by Something Corporate.
2) Lupe Fiasco's The Cool by Lupe Fiasco.
3) Model Soul by Nujabes.

The Recent Gatherings.

First things first...

Chee King is back, and with him comes Pods. Expect an entry on the glorious things that are Pods when i finally get them.

Anyways, there has been a lot of gatherings that have happened over the past few weeks. We had the Bersih thing last week, and we had the Hindraf thing today.

The money is on there being another one next week... Who knows??

Anyways, the reasoning behind these gatherings is to fight for the rights of the people. And it is an admirable thing to do. It really is.

But is it the right thing to do?

Lets be frank... Regardless the event, there will be problems. Does not matter if it for better electoral proceedings or to bring Beyonce to perform in Malaysia. The fact is that there will be people who will take it out of context and start getting violent, whilst proclaiming that the event is a non violent event.

Now, the recent events that occured has caused huge traffic jams around the various highways. I was in one on Thursday.

I was on the way back from Semenyih after class, and it took me 20 mins to get from Semenyih to the Sungai Besi toll.

Time check approaching the toll gate in the Touch n' Go lane: 9.15...

Time check when I got past the toll : 9.45

Time check when reaching the petrol station on the highway : 10.35

What is the point? What is the point of setting up roadblocks when all you are doing is causing major traffic jams everywhere?

But wait!!! It get's even better...

As I approached the roadblock that was causing many a tempers explode and even more engines to blow, I was actually divided between disbelief and well, kinda, a sense that I expected that thing to happen.

The roadblock was just there for show.

1 hour plus in a traffic jam, staving off hunger with music and water, and the roadblock is for freaking show!!!

What is the reasoning for doing the roadblock in the first place? What was going thru the minds of the people manning the roadblocks when they can see, as plain as day (*or night, considering the time of the day that this thing happened...*), that the closing down of 2 lanes, thus creating a 2-lane road to support 8-lane traffic, is about as logical as another season of The Simple Life (*I freaking hate that show*)

Now I am pretty sure that the roadblock are set up for a reason. That just to further add insult to that is the jam that I was in.

there is no point in causing all that havoc and making people spending all that time in the jam, wasting time, and painfully stretching our bladder to unimaginable proportions, when all you are gonna do is just wave every person thru the damn thing rite?

Might as well take the damn roadblock off. You can go home and watch TV and I can go home and pee...

As for the demonstrations that were held, I see the logic in both parties arguments as to why the demonstration should not and should be held. it is just that, there should be a better way to settle it than take it to the streets and get doused in water and cry from tear gasses, and spend days arguing in the papers about the pro's and con's of the demonstration and it's message.

Maybe a friendly DotA game...
